Six of the top 10 high schools in Northern Virginia belong to Fairfax County Public Schools, as recently stated by Northern Virginia Magazine. Despite the ongoing debate about admissions and the diversity of its student body, Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology (TJ) is widely considered to be one of - if not the - best public high school in Virginia. With its focus on STEM education it has consistently ranked highly among US News & World Report's annual rankings of public high schools nationwide. In addition to topping the list in Northern Virginia Magazine, TJ was named the fifth best high school, the number one magnet school and the fourth best high school focused on science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) in the country by US News and World Report, which released its annual ranking of public high schools nationwide in August. FCPS Superintendent Michelle Reid said in a statement to FFXNow that TJ “remains the leading high school in both our region and the state of Virginia”.
