Virginia public schools have been found to be among the top-tier in the United States, according to a recent study. The research used metrics to compare all states on two main criteria: the safety and quality of public schools. Virginia was ranked fourth in quality and third in safety, making it one of the best school systems in the country. Virginia public schools have the fourth highest math test scores in the nation, as well as the fourth lowest rate of bullying.
Additionally, there are no major deficiencies when evaluating their safety from violence, bullying, and substance use. Virginia scored 61.79 out of 100 and ranked fourth in overall quality and fourth in safety. ELA was one of two states that placed in the top five in both categories, with Massachusetts being the other. Virginia also had the fourth highest math score in the country according to WalletHub findings. Despite its high ranking, a report released by the Virginia Department of Education two months ago revealed that school closures, lower standards and lack of transparency have contributed to a decline in student performance over the past two years.
